CCO staff members Chris Bean and Anthony Jones minister to students at the University of Cincinnati in partnership with Southwestern Ohio Church of the Nazarene and University Christian Church respectively. Larry Bourgeois also spends time with staff and students in the Cincinnati area.
There are a variety of ways to connect with Chris’ ministry at the University of Cincinnati. One of those is to walk right through the front door at the Edge House which is located at 3007 Clifton Avenue. The Edge House is a campus ministry gathering place shared by the CCO/Nazarene, Lutheran (ELCA), Episcopal, and Lutheran (Missouri Synod) campus ministries.
Chris hosts an event called Journey 2:8 on Wednesday nights at the Edge House. This is a dinner & Bible study discussion in which any and all students are welcome to participate. The shared meal begins at 6:30pm, while the sharing of life and God’s Word goes from about 7:15-8:30pm.
Another great event is the Theology Throwdown which takes place on the 3rd Friday night of each month at the Edge House. During this friendly collision of hospitality and banter, students usually get to experience a delicious latte and homemade pie, along with some tasty tirades on various theological and philosophical topics from 8:00-10:00pm.
You’ll also enjoy an occasional informal conversation & coffee experience on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 3:00 to 5:00pm. This is a great time to come and check out the Edge House, get a great cup of coffee, raid the Edge House fridge, or just kick back for a conversation. The Edge House is also a good place for studying, doing laundry, taking a nap, and meeting other students.
Anthony Jones leads a Bible study called FOCUS Student Gathering at University Christian Church/Rohs Street Cafe from 7-9:30pm every Tuesday night. Hang out with other students to talk about life and faith. Questions and directions? Visit the University Christian Church website or email Anthony.
Each February, Chris takes UC students to the Jubilee conference in Pittsburgh. During spring break and the summer, the CCO offers a few transformational experiences that can turn a routine academic break into an opportunity for serious life change. Along with these big options, plans are being made to incorporate occasional opportunities for outdoor leadership and discipleship activities (backpacking, kayaking, rock-climbing/rappelling, etc.). For students interested in any of these opportunities, get in touch with Chris right away.
