There are several CCO ministries at Kent State University.
Ministry to Athletes
Ted Schumacher first started doing campus ministry with the CCO in 1972 at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He has been at Kent State since 1986. Many students have been thankful to God for Ted’s ministry to them over the years, including his new co-worker, Avery Danage.
At Kent State, Ted and Avery advise the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), which now meets together with Our Divine Unity, a primarily African-American outreach. Their combined meeting is on Mondays, 7:30 PM in room 315 of the KSU Student Center. This FCA/ODU combined ministry creates a unique opportunity for outreach and discipleship to not just athletes, but to all students on campus. As the FCA facilitator, Ted has become the unofficial chaplain for Kent State’s football team, connecting with players on the sidelines and inviting them to dinners at his home.
Avery also oversees the Tuesday Night Get Down, a fellowship where young men congregate to hear topics ranging from spiritual maturity to how to study the Bible. Avery also meets with students individually to mentor them. A student-led Bible study for women athletes meets at 9pm every Tuesday night.
Ted meets one-on-one with many students throughout the week, helping them come to a deeper understanding of God through Christ.
Through this multi-faceted ministry, Ted reaches a diverse student population: men, women, athletes, non-athletes, and students of many different ethnicities.

Late Night Ministries
“Why am I alive?” “Why are things so messed up? “Where is hope for the world and for me?”
Late Night Christian Fellowship approaches these questions and others with the understanding that God is deeply involved in and concerned about every area of our lives. Our vision is to CONNECT with God through Jesus and the study of the Scriptures that point to him: the Bible. This is our foundation and our focus of which we will turn to time and time again as we seek to CONNECT with each other in meaningful relationships as a Late Night community and as we seek to CONNECT with the world around us.
Late Night gathers on Thursday nights at 8:45 PM in the Multicultural Diversity Center, room 206 of the KSU Student Center, just above the KIVA. We gather for a time of worship, various forms of addressing topics from a biblical perspective, and simply to connect and have fun! Check us out on our website.
Kris Herman serves as the CCO adviser for Late Night Ministries.
